McDonalds

McDonald's is the number one fast food restaurant in not only America but all over the world. The problem with that is that the world is becoming obese. This makes people have more risk of heart attacks and just heart problems in general. In the olden days people never went out for dinner but in our generation we go out almost every night! Hopefully America can shape up literally before our whole population is obese.

The Lottery

In the story "The Lottery" there are many uses of symbolism.  For example the black box because black symbolizes death.  Not just the black box but also the stones that the children are playing with because someone ends up getting stoned in the end.  But all these things mean one thing in the end; there is lack of leadership.  It means this because there is no one to really take control in the situation and they just gang up the person that is picked.  Something else I noticed was that Tessie(Who got stoned) was late, and she kept complaining about this being unfair, which who knows maybe the rigged the lottery so she would die.  So next time you speak out of order or are late maybe you will be the next one to die.

The Last Pickle in the Pickle Jar

Why am I always last? It seems as if everyone has left me.  I wonder why, do I have to many lumps? Or maybe I am too green!  Well no matter what the cause is I am stuck alone in this pickle jar still waiting to be chosen for my destiny.  But alas! The refrigerator door has opened once again.  The hand reaches towards my jar and picks it up.  By now I am like a child on Christmas day.  But then it reaches back in and grabs the bag of carrots.  The carrots are laughing at me! I feel so ashamed.  But even worse in my spot the human places a brand new pickle jar.  Slowly the human make its way and without even having to think  they throw me into the garbage.  All I can do now is try not to cry.  Maybe it was time for me to go to a new home anyway...

Response to "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Field Below"

Authors Note:  In this response I will be telling you the tone and meaning of both "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Field Below"

When we listened to "Big Yellow Taxi" in class the tones between the two versions of "Big Yellow Taxi" seemed to be different from what I expected.  It seemed as if it was cheerful and happy, I don't know why they made it like that since the lyrics are very sad.  The purpose in this poem is to show how we are affecting nature and how a loved one is leaving them to go to the big city.  A tone affects how the reader interprets the song or poem, which in this case the two are very different. In the song and poem  "Field Below" they portray the same type of atmosphere with is almost depressing.  So when you are writing a poem make sure you know what tone you are trying to create for your readers because it may help a lot.

Gummy Bears

Gummy Bears

Who doesn't care about a gummy bear
They seem to be very rare
Because I put them in my tummy
Since they are very yummy
So I invent different flavors in my lair
I then sell them at a fair

Figurative Language

There were a some figurative language used in the poem Mother to son.  For example the mother said "Life for me ain't no crystal stair."  This would mean that her life was definitely not easy and you just have to keep going forward or as the poem would say climbing those stairs.  Another example is "Places with no carpet on the floor."  This means that she was poor when she was growing up because there apartment was floor less. The mood and tone in this story affected it because the mother spoke like she was uneducated because she wasn't educated because when she was younger she didn't have an education.  Also the mother is giving her son a slight scolding because he must be going through a hard time and might want to give up but she keeps on telling him to keep going forward.  A book that can relate to this poem is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, it relates to this poem because the Indian is going threw a really hard time and his parent are trying to support him and to help him move forward with his life.

Character Description

Authors Note:  I am writing a character description on Mary Spirit in the book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.  I will be using figurative language as well.

Mary Spirit is just a little sad since she dropped out of school, which made her not happy to be coming back into our classroom.  She is as smart as Einstein, and she wants to write romantic novels but is too embarrassed, but now was her time to shine.  It was now Mary's time to teach and share her passion with us.  It is her time to teach us.  So she walks into my classroom and it is dead silent like one of those moments where everyone is silent except for one cricket. But all of that changes in a little bit when she starts talking and her voice sound like sweet honey.  We all began to love her that instant and all of her ideas for romantic novels.  Mary has now become our inspiration for everything.  First impressions are everything and you only get one of them.
